Chocolate Babka French Toast

Ingredients:

French Toast:

  • 1/2 loaf of Chocolate Babka (about 4 slices)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 2 tbp. sugar

  • 1 pinch of cinnamon (optional)

  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter

  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder (optional)

  • Maple syrup (optional)

Icing:

  • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • 1-2 tbsp. whole milk

  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract (optional)

Directions:

  1. For the icing, melt butter in a microwave safe dish. Add powdered sugar and slowly whisk in the milk, 1 tbsp. at a time until icing is the right consistency. Add 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract, mix and set aside.

  2. In a shallow dish, whisk egg, heavy cream, sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Dip each slice of babka into the mixture, making sure to fully coat both sides. Let sit for 1-2 minutes so the babka fully absorbs the egg and cream mixture.

  3. In a frying pan over medium heat, melt butter and add babka slices. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until both sides begin to brown. Plate and drizzle with vanilla icing and top with cocoa powder.
